134 now confirmed dead after Joplin, Mo., tornado, none remain missing

A man sorts through what is left of a home in Joplin, Mo. on May 24, 2011. The tornado that swept through the area has left a confirmed 134 people dead, officials announced today.

Missouri officials say everyone who had been reported missing since last week's massive Joplin tornado has been accounted for and at least 134 people have been confirmed killed.

The Wednesday announcement came from the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The agency has led the effort to track down the nearly 270 people listed as unaccounted for after the May 22 tornado.

SLPD sends 60 officers to Joplin

The St. Louis Police Department is sending 60 police officers down to Joplin to help as the city recovers.

The officers leave Wednesday and will be there for a week.

They’ll be working 12-hour shifts dealing with traffic control, check points, and manning squad patrols through the impacted area.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Tim Reagan says the officers all volunteered for the work.

10 still missing in Joplin; 120 dead identified

People from around the state of Missouri held signs of support before the start of a memorial service for the dead and missing in Joplin, Mo. on May 29.

Less than a dozen people remain unaccounted for after the tornado that hit Joplin last week.

Missouri Department of Public Safety Deputy Director Andrea Spillars said Tuesday that 10 people remain missing. Spillars says two new names were added to the missing list Monday, but four people were removed once officials learned they were alive.

It's not known how many people in all died in the May 22 storm.
