Two arts therapy organizations in St. Louis will receive an influx in donations thanks to upcoming charitable concerts. Proceeds from the 4th Annual Pazaz Gala 2014 Saturday, February 8 at the Touhill will go to the dance therapy program Drea’s Dream, and a concert Thursday, February 13 at the Sheldon based on the music of Al Hammerman will benefit the songwriting therapy program Kids Rock Cancer.
Kids Rock Cancer is an outgrowth of Maryville University’s Music Therapy Program. Inspired by the program Purple Song Can Fly in Houston, Texas, the Maryville program goes into hospitals and works individually with children with cancer and other blood disorders. The musical therapist helps the child express a set of thoughts and ideas, turn them into lyrics of a song and compose a tune for the lyrics.
