Auditor Schweich raises concerns over Mo. Gov. Nixon's travel costs

Another auditor is criticizing Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's administration for billing a state agency over travel costs.

The audit released Thursday by Republican Auditor Tom Schweich found $1,630 was charged to the Division of Workforce Development, in the Department of Economic Development. Nixon and a labor department official promoted a program administered by the workforce division. The audit said documents for the flight showed no division staff came along.

"Improvements made" by Department of Mental Health following audit review

Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich.

Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich announced today that the Missouri Department of Mental Health has "made improvements" after a follow-up of their December 2010 audit.

The "follow-up" is a first for Schweich's office.

According to a press release from the Auditor's office:

In the 2010 audit of DMH, the auditor's office found that for the 3 years ended June 30, 2010, DMH paid employees approximately $47.8 million in overtime department-wide.

Schweich wants to review Mo. state agencies

Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich has announced a proposal to review how several state agencies spend money.

The one-time review would compare spending habits of five to 10 of Missouri's largest state agencies.  Schweich says it could save the state millions of dollars.
