GOP race for Mo. Secretary of State finally heats up after quiet start

Robin Carnahan’s decision to not seek a third term as Missouri Secretary of State has opened the door for seven hopefuls from four different political parties.  The contest had been relatively quiet until about two weeks ago, when the three Republican contenders began airing TV ads and stepping up their campaign appearances.  St. Louis Public Radio’s Marshall Griffin takes a look at the three GOP candidates who want to become Missouri’s next Secretary of State:

Candidates line up on 1st filing day for Aug. primary

Candidates for the U.S. Senate, Congress, Missouri General Assembly, Governor  and other statewide offices can now file to run.

Hundreds flocked to Jefferson City today and lined up outside the doors of the Secretary of State’s office to file their paperwork. Among those filing on the first day was Republican Peter Kinder, who’s seeking a third term as Lt. Governor.  Kinder had originally planned to challenge incumbent Democrat Jay Nixon for Governor, but changed his mind last fall.

Dillon, ex-aide to Skelton runs for Mo. secretary of state

Ryan Dillon, of Rolla, Mo. has announced he's running for Missouri Secretary of State.

An aide to former Democratic Congressman Ike Skelton says he plans to run for Missouri secretary of state.

Ryan Dillon, of Rolla, said Monday that he intends to make job creation and an "open political process" the themes of his campaign.
