Interstate 170 to close next weekend at Delmar

The Missouri Department of Transportation will close all lanes of Interstate 170 at Delmar next Friday, July 8, to set girders and install portions of the driving surface for the new bridge.

Lane closures will start around 7 p.m. on July 8, and all lanes will be open again by the morning rush hour on Monday, July 11.

High water slowing work on new Mississippi River Bridge

Work continues on the piers for the new Mississippi River Bridge just north of downtown, though high water is making things less efficient.

The moderate flooding along the Mississippi River at St. Louis is costing crews building the piers for the new bridge a couple of days of work a week.

MoDOT project manager Greg Horn said workers are still out on the piers six days a week, 20 hours a day. But the flooding - the river is about five feet above flood stage - means crews can only work at about 60 percent efficiency.

Lanes on Interstate 70 will remain closed during evening rush

Wednesday’s vote by state highway commissioners to downsize the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is meeting with criticism from the state’s leading agricultural lobby.

Missouri Farm Bureau officials say the 30-day notice given to the public about the plan was too short to allow for a full examination and for citizen comments.

MoDOT building that will be shuttered in restructuring could get new life

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission yesterday approved a five-year reduction plan that will eliminate 1200 jobs and close 131 facilities - including district offices in Macon, Joplin and Willow Springs. But the building in Joplin could get see new life fairly quickly. The AP reports that MoDOT director Kevin Keith has offered the building to the Joplin School District, which saw a half-dozen buildings destroyed or damaged in the May 22 F5 tornado.

Keith says agency employees who would be in the building when school starts would be relocated to temporary quarters.

Missouri transportation officials have approved a plan to cut positions, close facilities and sell equipment to bolster money for road and bridge projects.

The Highways and Transportation Commission approved the proposal today.

Under the plan, about 1,200 positions will be cut, 131 facilities will be closed and 740 pieces of equipment will be sold.

I-170 to close May 20-23 for bridge removal
