Audits examine Mo. license fee offices

A pair of audits examining fee offices for driver’s licenses and motor vehicles was released today by Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich (R).

He told reporters the purpose of the audits was to see if the process of awarding bids to run the offices has been de-politicized.  One of the audits turned up at least one case of a not-for-profit group using a subcontractor to run 10 license fee offices, which Schweich says is against regulations.

Simmons resigns as Mo. administration commissioner

The head of Missouri's Office of Administration is stepping down effective Feb. 1.

Gov. Jay Nixon announced Tuesday that Administration Commissioner Kelvin Simmons was leaving the position. In a resignation letter dated Monday, Simmons said he was pursuing an "opportunity outside of state government" but did not elaborate.

Mo. revenue up 4 percent in first 2 budget months

Strong sales tax collections in August helped Missouri's revenues rise more than 4 percent during the first two months of the state's budget year.

Figures released Friday by the state Office of Administration show August sales tax revenues were up 9.6 percent over the same month a year ago. Corporate tax collections also rose while tax refunds fell. That helped offset a slight decline in individual income tax collections and produced a net revenue increase of 6.9 percent for August.

Mo. tax revenues up 6.5 percent through March

Missouri's tax revenues are up 6.5 percent with only one-quarter of the budget year to go.

Figures released Monday by the state Office of Administration show the growth fueled by stronger individual and corporate income tax collections than during the 2010 fiscal year. A decline in tax refunds also has contributed to the growth in state revenues.

Two state buildings evacuated in Jefferson City due to snow on roofs

Two state office buildings in Jefferson City were evacuated today, due to large amounts of snow on the roofs.


More than 550 people work in the two buildings, which house the Missouri Dept. of Health and Senior Services.
