Betty Anne Ward McCaskill, mother of Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), has died at the age of 84.
Senator McCaskill's campaign released a statement Monday afternoon announcing the death. The statement says Betty Anne was surrounded by her family and died of natural causes at her home in St. Louis.
Senator McCaskill says her mother's death "creates a hole in [her] life that will never be filled." The full text of her statement:

One spot features former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who also campaigned for Akin in the primaries. In that ad, "Strong as Steel," Huckabee calls Akin a good Christian man and a courageous conservative who can’t be bought.
