Illinois legislators will come back to Springfield for a special session in order to work out a budget deal, Gov. Bruce Rauner said Thursday in an attempt to end an impasse that's approaching its third year and running up the state's deficit.

The Republican governor's announcement, done via a Facebook video and statement, came the same day that the multi-state lottery association overseeing Powerball and Mega Millions games will leave Illinois by the end of this month if there is no budget.

The Missouri couple who just hit it big in the Powerball lottery will take a lump-sum payment amounting to about $136 million after taxes.

After all the hype and hoopla, millions of Americans (including us) are waking up this morning to learn that they aren't sudden millionaires.

Yes, the Powerball is getting high - very high - $550 million. And NPR says your chances of being killed by a vending machine are higher than your chances of winning.

But could buying a ticket in the "Show-Me" state give you a leg up?

If you believe that a state's track record of winning tickets has something to do with it, then maybe - though the odds, in fact, favor no one.

Missouri Lottery officials are still seeking out the holder of a Powerball ticket worth $1 million.
