Democratic US Senator Claire McCaskill is throwing her support behind the November ballot initiative that would raise the cigarette tax in Missouri. If approved, the initiative would increase the current cigarette tax from the lowest in the nation at 17 cents, to 90 cents.

Joe Reagan, 48, will be coming to St. Louis just before the RCGA's annual meeting on Jan. 26, from Louisville, Ky., where he has served as the president and CEO of the Greater Louisville Inc.-Metro Chamber of Commerce since 2005.

The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial could change to the Gateway Arch National Park by July 2018.

The newest head of St. Louis' Regional Chamber and Growth Association comes to the St. Louis region by way of Louisville, Ky.

Joe Reagan, president of Greater Louisville, Inc. will be the RCGA's new president and CEO effective Feb. 1, 2012.

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Nov. 28, 2011 - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is calling for a merger of the economic agencies in St. Louis and St. Louis County, saying it would be "a good and timely next step" toward his broader goal of eventually making the city a part of the county.

The mayor also plans to lobby the Regional Commerce and Growth Association to divest itself of its economic development function, so that the group also could be part of his vision for "a single development agency that works for St. Louis."

RCGA: Economic impact of first-round playoffs $5.2 million

The St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association says the economic impact of the Cardinals in the first-round playoffs approaches $5.2 million per game, based on the typical game drawing a capacity crowd.

The association says that if the Cardinals played all possible games through the World Series, the impact would approach that of having the 2009 All-Star Game in St. Louis at more than $56 million.

Fleming to resign from RCGA

The president and CEO of the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association will step down by the end of this year.

Dick Fleming made the announcement Thursday.

He will continue to lead the RCGA until the board chooses his successor.

Fleming says the St. Louis region works together much better than it did when he first joined the RCGA back in 1994.
