Jazz Unlimited June 26, 2016 will be “The Keys and Strings Hour + New Music.”  The Quieter Side of Jazz will feature pianist, composer and bandleader Chick Corea along with Gary Burton in music ranging from piano trios, a piano-vibes duet and a quintet.  In addition, new music from Steve Davis, Russell Malone, Rene Marie, Warren Wolf, Geoff Keezer, Steve Swallow, the Frank Lowe Saxemble, the power trio of David Murray, Geri Allen and Terri Lynne Carrington, Anthony Braxton, Joe Manieri, and William Parker will be heard in the last two hours.

Please join me tonight on Jazz Unlimited from 9:00 pm to midnight for “New Music.”  This show consists entirely of new music.  The Keys and Strings hour features a new 1977 recording of the Red Garland Trio, the Mark Wade Trio, the Avashai Cohen trio, Albert “Tootie’ Heath’s Philadelphia Beat trio, and solo pianist Lara Downes playing two tunes from the Billy Holiday songbook.  The second and third hours of the show feature new music St.

Jazz Unlimited for December 26, 2014 will be “Guitars & Violins and New Music.”  Violins have been a part of jazz since the beginning.  Photographic evidence suggests that early jazz combos that had front lines of trumpet, trombone and violin or trumpet, clarinet and violin were more prevalent than those that had front lines of trumpet, trombone and clarinet.  The January “Keys and Strings Hour” will showcase groups containing violins and guitars including the Joe Venuti-Eddie Lang duo, the Stuff Smith Quintet with Oscar Peterson and Barney Kessel, the Quintet of the Hot Club of France,
