Suspicious package sends 3 Scott Air Force Base workers to hospitals

Updated at 3:11 pm: According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the three people taken to the hospital were an airman and two civilian base employees. Col. Michael Hornitschek told the Post that the package had been isolated and the FBI had been called into investigate as part of standard procedure.

FAA says St. Clair County shooting range no danger to aircraft

The Federal Aviation Administration says the Caseyville Rifle and Pistol Club is no danger to people or planes.

But officials in St. Clair County have a different view of the shooting range located near Scott Air Force Base and MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.

The county has been trying to get an injunction to shutter the club and insists the open-air range endangers low-flying planes.

County officials have asked a judge to toss out as evidence an FAA letter calling the shooting range safe.

Scott AFB Ill. Air National Guard unit supports effort over Libya

A unit of the Illinois Air National Guard is joining the mission to maintain a no-fly zone over Libya.

The 126th Air Refueling Wing is based out of Scott Air Force Base in southwest Illinois. It refuels aircraft in mid-air at speeds of more than 500 mph.

The unit flies the KC-135R Stratotanker. That's the military version of the Boeing 707.

Scott AFB to be featured on "Modern Marvels"

Ever wonder how all of the items required get to every single branch of the American military?

That would be the job of the U.S. Transportation Command, based at Scott Air Force Base near Belleville, Ill.

The Belleville News Democrat reports that the work the men and women at U.S. Transportation Command, Air Mobility Command and the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at Scott Air Force Base do every day will be featured Friday on the television program Modern Marvels.

According to the paper the episode will highlight "Packaging" and explore the technology and ingenuity required to create and sustain movement of goods.

The hour long show will air at 8 p.m on Friday, Jan. 13 and is available online after it airs.
