St. Louis Symphony Bass Trombonist Gerry Pagano recognized the need for a forum to provide educational and performance opportunities for trombone, euphonium, baritone horn and tuba players in the St. Louis region, so he formed the Saint Louis Low Brass Collective.  The organization presents its 5th Annual Low Brass Spectacular Gala Concert Tuesday, January 22 at The Sheldon Concert Hall. His father, conductor and violinist Felix Slatkin, was born in St. Louis and joined the St. Louis Symphony when he was still a teen.  The younger Slatkin’s first conducting position with a major symphony orchestra came in 1968 when he was named Assistant Conductor of the St.

The St. Louis Symphony Joins The Circus

Each Spring, Circus Flora sets up its “big top” in the parking lot of Powell Hall.  Over the years, the Flying Wallendas, Nino the Clown, and the St. Louis Arches have become familiar to many St. Louisans.  

For the second time, Circus Flora will move inside the hall, high wires and all, to join the St. Louis Symphony in a holiday production which will bring to life Dylan Thomas’ classic, “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.”
