Tilley officially launches campaign

Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley has formally launched his campaign for lieutenant governor. Tilley says he is starting off with more than $1 million in his campaign account.

Tilley, a Republican from Perryville, officially announced his candidacy Thursday for Missouri's second-ranking executive post. It comes as no surprise, because Tilley had changed his fundraising committee to reflect his bid for lieutenant governor last December.

Tilley: "Thanks, but no thanks" to jobs bill meeting

Missouri House of Representatives Speaker Steven Tilley.

At least one Missouri legislative leader is so far saying "no" to Governor Jay Nixon's proposed top-level meeting to forge a jobs bill

House Speaker Steven Tilley said any such meeting would be premature while the House and Senate remain at odds over tax credit reform.

Mo. House panel formed after natural disasters

The chambers of the Missouri House of Representatives.

A newly created House committee will examine whether a special legislative session is needed to assist in the recovery from a deadly tornado in Joplin and flooding in southeastern Missouri.

The House Interim Committee on Disaster Recovery was to make its recommendation by the end of July. The committee also was tasked with examining long-term recovery strategies and ways for Missouri to be better prepared for future natural disasters.

A report with those findings was to be submitted by the end of the year.

Still no deals on tax credits, local control

Some minor progress, but no breakthrough yet in efforts to pass both the St. Louis Police local control and tax credit legislation.

The Missouri Senate this evening confirmed Governor Jay Nixon’s appointment to the state-run board that oversees the St. Louis Police Department.  Tom Irwin’s appointment is seen as a precursor to implementing local control.
