Arianna String Quartet Celebrates 15th Season In St. Louis

Arianna String Quartet

Founded in 1992, the Arianna String Quartet (ASQ) moved from Michigan to St. Louis in 2000 and became the Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Initially the quartet split its concert schedule between the Ethical Society and the Sheldon Concert Hall but was concerned that the audiences were completely separate. But with the opening of UMSL’s Touhill Performing Arts Center in 2003, the quartet found a new home in the center’s Lee Theater.

It's Circus Time At The University City Children's Center

The University City Children’s Center is hosting a pop-up circus Saturday, April 26 featuring performers from Circus Flora.

“The fun thing about it is, they will have their circus and they will have their aerial acts and their cyclists, but they are going to do a workshop for the children who are there for the last hour. So there will be an hour of pop-up circus and then an hour for kids to play,” said Stephen Zwolak, executive director of University City Children’s Center.

University City Children's Center Presents A Musical Celebration Of Early Childhood

The eighth annual concert to benefit the tuition assistance program at University City Children's Center will be held next Saturday at Powell Hall. Melissa Brooks, Associate Principal Cellist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, pianist Ruth Price with the St. Louis Children's Choirs and pianist Catherine Kautsky, Professor of Music at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music will all be performing.

The program is titled "Fairy Tales Do Come True," but it is not a concert aimed specifically for children.

Why Is Early Childhood Education Important? St. Louis Leaders Weigh In

During the State of the Union Address in February, President Obama announced a plan for "Preschool for All," which would provide federal funding to states to expand early childhood education. On a recent trip to St. Louis, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan reiterated that early childhood education is a priority for the president.
