One of the young men, a 16-year-old, was treated for minor wounds before being taken to the Juvenile Building. A 23-year-old man was arrested while police were investigating the robberies.
The incident began around 10:50 Wednesday night, when two men held up a driver attempting to make a pizza delivery in the 4600 block of Michigan. They escaped in a getaway car parked in a nearby alley and driven by a third suspect.
Police notified other pizza delivery restaurants in the area, and learned that an Imo's Pizza had taken a phone order from a caller that left the same phone number as the first robbery. Police staked out in an alley near the delivery address, 4100 Taft, approached a van parked there, which began to drive toward them, prompting both officers to fire their weapons. One officer fired his weapon a second time when the suspect pointed what appeared to be a gun at the officers.
Police believe the men in custody - plus a third, who is suspected of being the getaway driver - are responsible for the attempted robbery of another pizza delivery driver in the 4100 block of Michigan. Authorities are still seeking the third suspect.
