Forest Park ER to close

St. Alexius Hospital announced today it will close its emergency room on its Forest Park campus in about a month.

In a statement hospital officials said the Forest Park Emergency Room on Oakland Avenue is receiving fewer than 15 patients daily and less than one patient per day with an emergency medical condition.

Last year St. Alexius laid off more than 300 of its Forest Park campus' 400 employees, leaving only the emergency room open.

Now officials say the low number of patients and fewer funds from the state are forcing it to close the ER as well.

The ER will close at midnight on Friday, May 20.

St. Alexius will continue to operate an ER at its Broadway Campus on 3933 South Broadway in St. Louis.
