Obama to visit St. Louis today

Following a speech in Dallas promoting his jobs bill, President Obama will attend two private fundraisers in St. Louis , one at a downtown hotel on behalf of the Democratic National Committee, and the other at the home of Tom Carnahan, the brother of Congressman Russ Carnahan and Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

Not everyone is pleased with the President's plans. Republican Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri says the President seems to be more focused on campaigning than on solving the nation's problem.

"I think the President would be better off if he was in Washington working with legislative leaders to get something done and maybe more importantly, working with his regulators to keep these regulations under control."

Other Republican Party officials have highlighted that neither Senator Claire McCaskill nor Governor Jay Nixon - both Democrats -- apparently plan to attend tonight's fundraisers with the president.

A protest by the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition and some other groups will be held near the event at Tom Carnahan's house this afternoon.

Science Center demotes five vice presidents

The St. Louis Science Center has demoted five vice presidents in a move aimed at saving about $400,000 annually at the publicly funded museum. The St. Louis Post-Dispatchreports that the Science Center did not release new salary information for the officials who were demoted to other senior management positions.

It is part of the Science Center's effort to cut more than $2 million in spending over the next 18 months.

In August, the Post-Dispatch reported that the Science Center spent more last year on compensation for its president and vice presidents than any other tax-supported cultural institution in the St. Louis Zoo-Museum District.

The Cardinals face the Phillies at Busch Stadium today

Jaime Garcia takes the mound this afternoon as the St. Louis Cardinals host the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the NL division series. The Phillies will counter with left-hander Cole Hamels.

The best-of-five series is tied at one game apiece.
