Don't panic if you see a fire in Forest Park tomorrow afternoon.

Weather permitting, Forest Park Forever, and the city's parks and fire departments will conduct a 14-acre controlled burn in the Deer Lake Natural Area, near the Union Ave. entrance to the park.

On his blog, Mayor Francis Slay said "the burn will help maintain the vitality and health of the savannas and prairies far more effectively than mowing or taking no action." He says neighbors and businesses within a half-mile radius of the park have been notified of the burn.

People who want to observe the burn can park in the lots across from the visitor's center.
