First St. Louis snow of the season arrives

(Rachel Lippmann/St. Louis Public Radio)
Snow caused troubles on St. Louis metro highways overnight.

Snow accumulated through much of the St. Louis region overnight. The snowfall caused visibilities to fall below one-mile at times.

The snow caused accidents in the St. Louis metropolitan area. I-55 northbound at I-44 westbound downtown was closed starting at 1:30 a.m. due to a fatal accident. It reopened at around 5:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service expected the snow to end by sunrise in the metropolitan area and will end by mid-morning in parts of southwest Illinois.

The Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination this morning.
