A 29-year-old man is charged with obstruction of justice in the hit-and-run accident that killed a woman crossing a downtown St. Louis street.
Madison County, Ill., prosecutors filed the charge Monday against 29-year-old Eric Peterson. He does not yet have an attorney.
The accident happened April 27 when 23-year-old Amber Wood was crossing a street near Broadway Oyster Bar. She was struck by a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix that sped off. The car was found near a scrap yard in Madison County, Ill.
St. Louis police are seeking manslaughter charges but prosecutors in the city say they want more evidence. Peterson remains at large.
Peterson has a long criminal history that includes convictions for theft, burglary, robbery, assault, driving while intoxicated and property damage.
