Search ongoing for man who shot police officers overnight

St. Louis police are searching for a suspect who shot an officer in the arm. The 30-year-old officer was was not seriously injured. He returned fire and authorities aren't sure if the suspect was injured.

It happened about 1:30 a.m. Friday when the officer approached a man suspected in a recent robbery. Police say that as the officer neared the man, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several rounds.

KC Bishop found guilty of shielding priest

A Jackson County Circuit Court judge found Bishop Robert Finn guilty of shielding a priest who had a problem with child pornography.

Following a fast trial that lasted only an hour, the judge sentenced Bishop Finn to two years of probation, with lots of extra stipulations, and a thousand dollar fine.

It’s the first criminal verdict against a US Bishop in this type of case.

Some abuse victim’s advocates wanted a full-on trial. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker says her team was ready for a 2 or 3 week-long trial, but gladly reached agreement with Finn’s lawyers to drop it, in favor of yesterday’s speedy proceeding.

"We did not have to drag in photos, to be seen and viewed in open court," said Baker. "We did not have to drag parents into a court room to identify photographs of their children.   For us that is a huge, huge win."

The Diocese of Kansas City and St. Joseph was another winner yesterday.  Prosecutors agreed to drop the charges against it all together, after the judge found Finn guilty of one of the two counts against him.
