St. Louis prosecutors have filed several felony charges against a 44-year-old man accused of shooting the two officers.
Rico A. Martin faces two counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of armed criminal action, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony drug charges.
The female police officer shot in the foot was treated and released. The male officer was kept longer for observation, but should be released later today.
Martin pleaded guilty in 2010 to statutory sodomy charges, and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Police chief Sam Dotson says there's no indication that Martin deliberately set off the alarm to attract police attention.

Two St. Louis police officers are recovering after being shot Wednesday night in a north city neighborhood. That’s accordingto the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and local media.
The shooting took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the 900 block of Elias Avenue.
A police spokesman told the Post-Dispatch that a 31-year-old female officer was shot in the foot and a 26- year-old male officer was shot in the leg. Both were taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and were in stable condition.
The newspaper reports that the officers were called to the scene because of an alarm sounding. They came upon a boarded up home that had smoke coming from the chimney. A suspect confronted the officers and opened fire without warning. Officers shot the suspect several times. The suspect was taken to Saint Louis University hospital where he was in critical condition. The suspect's name has not been released.
