SLU President Biondi To Step Down Sept. 1

(UPI/Bill Greenblatt)
Father Lawrence Biondi

Last updated 3:50 p.m.

Saint Louis University's president Father Lawrence Biondi will be stepping down Sept. 1.

The fact that Biondi was to retire was announced in May, but the date Biondi would step down was not announced at that time.

“Over the summer I decided that the time is right for me to retire,” Biondi said in a press release. “While I will miss the mission, work and activity of the University, I am also looking forward to new challenges that lie ahead for me. I leave SLU in a very strong position, and I look forward to continuing to provide input to the Board as it searches for my permanent successor.”

SLU has designated William Kauffmann as interim president and the search for Biondi's permanent replacement is expected to begin after the Sept. 28 meeting of the University's board of trustees. Kauffmann is currently serving as SLU's Vice President and General Counsel.

A group called "SLU Students For No Confidence" also posted the following document on their Facebook page today, which goes into greater detail about the process and succession plans:
