Review: Go to 'Out of the Woods'

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, May 3, 2010 - In “Out of the Woods,” another lovely exhibit at PSTL Gallery, Eden Harris shows seven works made of hand-cut paper that reference a variety of forms in the natural world.

A few of the pieces combine cut paper and natural fiber pulp, and draw on the lovely geometries and earthy colors of the hornet’s nest (an actual hornet’s nest sits nearby on a pedestal, making for some interesting comparisons).

Three wall-hung works involve layers of pure white cut paper that cast marvelous, subtle shadows.

All works are untitled, and date from 2009-2010. A simply beautiful show.

Ivy Cooper, a professor of art at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is the Beacon's art critic.
