Delmar Records is a new label focused on promoting St. Louis musicians on a national scale. Local musician James Irwin, who performs and records as James K, said the label is like a home for his music.

“I’ve been in situations where I’ve been offered deals through major labels and indie labels and it just never felt right; and I figured why not put my music out through an avenue that I was actually kind of in control of and I actually believed in,” said Irwin.

During an interview on St. Louis Public Radio’s Cityscape, Delmar Records co-founder Sebastian “Tech Supreme” Lee said he hopes the label will take the responsibility of music industry business like promotions and marketing off the shoulders of artists. Lee thinks this support will create the opportunity for better outreach on behalf of their musicians and allow label artists Tef Poe, Indiana Rome, Legend Camp and T-Dubb-O to focus on their work.

“All an artist has to do in that situation is two things: be an artist, right, make the music, and listen to what the label tells you to do,” said Lee.

The label consists of friends and colleagues who have collaborated on music or marketing and promotions ventures in the past. Vocalist Irwin said this approach creates a real synergy between the artists and logistical team. It's a combination he thinks will benefit fans developed from appearing on NBC'sThe Voice.

“We’re kind of in perfect harmony to release this music and give those fans something to hear.”

Label participants meet weekly and have already developed a release calendar for the coming year.
