State Rep. Rodney Hubbard (D-St. Louis)

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – A first-term state legislator from St. Louis has been arrested on suspicion of firing a pistol at a man.

State Rep. Rodney R. Hubbard, a Democrat, campaigned on a desire to fight crime. He was arrested Sunday after a neighbor reported Hubbard had fired several shots at him during a quarrel on Saturday. Hubbard says he was not involved in a shooting.

The Democrat lives in a St. Louis public housing complex. Police say he and the man are neighbors and knew each other before the shooting.

Hubbard was booked on suspicion of first-degree assault, armed criminal action; and third-degree assault. He serves the 58th district, which runs from the Mississippi River to Kingshighway in north-central St. Louis City. The district includes parts of the Central West End, Carr Square, the Ville, and St. Louis Place
