St. Louis Businesses Oppose City Labor Plan

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Heavy opposition has surfaced to a plan the St. Louis Board of Aldermen is considering that would allow the city to impose a labor agreement on certain public construction projects.

The measure could force contractors to pay union scale wages and could ask labor not to engage in work stoppages.

It would also allow the city to use project labor agreements on any projects not funded with federal dollars.

Opponents say the agreement would drive small companies out of business.
