Jefferson Co. Sheriff Disciplines Staff After Jail Rape

Hillsboro, MO – Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer says he's disciplined the workers who put a male inmate in a cell with a female inmate, who was then raped.

The mix-up last month happened when an inexperienced jailer put James Ross into the wrong holding cell; the woman inside was sleeping asleep and completely under her covers. Ross is now charged with sexual assault.

Jailers are supposed to keep a roster at each holding cell listing the inmates who are held there but they weren't posted that night.

Sheriff Boyer says the jailer didn't consult the jail's booking log. He says he's disciplined staff and changed procedures.
