Springfield, Ill. – The man who's accused of killing an unarmed guard inside the Illinois Capitol building will be examined to see if he's fit to stand trial.
A psychiatrist named Monday will examine Derek Potts within the next month.
Potts is accused of killing Bill Wozniak last week. Potts's family says the 24-year old has had a history of mental illness and might not have been on his medication when the shooting took place.
Potts is charged with murder walking into the Capitol September 20th and shooting guard William Wozniak with a shotgun. Wozniak was unarmed.
The exam will determine whether Potts understands his circumstances and can assist in his defense.
