STONINGTON, Ill. – A train heading from Granite City to Decatur, Ill. derailed Sunday central Illinois.
Twenty of the Norfolk Southern freight train went off the tracks. Most of the trains cars were empty., but four of the derailed cars were tank cars filled with hydrochloric acid.
A spokesman for the railroad says first indications are there have been no leaks.
The accident happened near Stonington, Ill., southeast of Springfield.
The railroad spokesman says it isn't known when the cars will be removed and the tracks reopened to rail service.
