Alton, Ill. – Teachers in Alton, Ill. have a new contract to vote on in an effort to avoid a strike.
Officials from both sides declined to talk about the offer after a two-hour negotiating session on Wednesday. They said they'll talk about the details after the more than 800 members of the union vote on the plan.
Last month, the union rejected a two-year contract proposal that included average salary increases of 10%. Teachers said union members weren't willing to lose 50 custodial jobs that the school board had sought.
