St. Louis, MO – There's an effort to recall St. Louis Alderman Tom Bauer.
Residents of his ward, which is mostly made up of the Dogtown neighborhood, say Bauer has lost touch with constituents. And some fellow aldermen also question some real estate investments and probate cases he's taken on in his own ward. While not illegal, they say the deals could be considered unethical.
Bauer says he's done nothing wrong. He's filed a lawsuit against the organizers of the recall petition drive, saying they've defamed him and opened him to ridicule. He's demanding $2 million in damages.
Bauer was elected in 1999 and has two years left on his current term. He's a Democrat who's known for campaigning on the back of a donkey.
Just last month, 4th Ward Alderwoman Peggy Ryan was recalled.
