St. Louis – A veteran Kirkwood police officer was shot and killed Tuesday night while investigating a fireworks complaint.
A manhunt is under way for a man wearing blue shorts and a red sweat shirt. Police say the suspect frequented the neighborhood.
Police say Sergeant William McEntee was ambushed by the gunman who made "bizarre statements" and opened fire.
The shooting apparently had nothing to do with the fireworks complaint McEntee was investigating.
McEntee had been with the Kirkwood Police Department since 1981.
