Five dead, 13 injured in I-44 wreck

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Five people died and 13 were injured following a multiple-vehicle accident on Interstate 44 near Six Flags St. Louis Thursday.

All five victims were in the same minivan, authorities say.

The accident happened around 10:30 Thursday morning. The westbound portion of the interstate was shut down near the amusement park in far southwest St. Louis County, with traffic backing up for miles.

The stretch of I-44 near the amusement park has been the site of numerous accidents, sometimes when traffic backs up to exit to Six Flags. Just two weeks ago, two men from Kansas died near the same site.
