Nashville, Tenn. – The Missouri and Illinois State Fairs are both underway, but neither fest will include concerts from Leonard Skynard, as first planned.
The band canceled Friday's show in Sedalia and Saturday's in Springfield because lead singer Johnny Van Zant has inflamed vocal cords.
In all, the rock band has nixed eight shows. A statement on the band's Web site says Van Zant has been ordered by doctors to rest his voice.
Johnny Van Zant joined the band after the death of his older brother, Ronnie. Johnny also performs with another brother, Donnie, as the duo Van Zant, whose major-label debut album has spawned such hits as "Get Right With the Man."
The Illinois State Fair had sold more than 9,200 tickets for the Lynyrd Skynyrd show. Refunds will be made.
