St. Louis, MO – The Ford Motor Company's plant in suburban Hazelwood is scheduled to be shut down as early as tomorrow (Thursday), which means today is the last day workers can decide to accept a buyout package.
The other option is to stay with the company and hope for a job elsewhere.
Recently, Ford announced it plans to close the Hazelwood plant, where SUVs are made, as part of a massive company-wide restructuring.
In all, about 1,800 workers (1,300 active and 500 laid off) at the plant are weighing their options.
The Post-Dispatch reports that, as of Monday, about 500 people had taken the buyout. Ford expects that number to increase.
