St. Louis, MO – Charter Communications is blaming higher operating expenses and more spending on marketing for a widening first-quarter loss. The St. Louis-based cable company reported its quarterly loss this morning (Tuesday) at $459 million.
That compares to a loss of $353 million in the same quarter a year ago.
Charter's loss was steeper than Wall Street projections, but its revenue was better than expected. Revenue rose to $1.37 billion from $1.27 billion.
The company provides cable, high-speed Internet and telephone service.
