Ladue, MO – A highway worker was killed this (Wed.) morning on westbound Highway 40 near I-270.

Officials are only saying the man was from Oklahoma and didn't work for MO-DOT, but rather for a sub-contractor called Multiple Contractor, Inc.

The driver of the car that struck the worker was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The accident happened around 4:00 a.m., when the westbound car hit and killed the worker, who was in a construction zone doing resurfacing work.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the worker was pinned between the vehicle and a piece of construction equipment.

Westbound lanes were shut down, but have reopened.
