Bank guard shoots suspected car thief
St. Louis – Police are investigating a bank guard's shooting of a man suspected of trying to break into his car outside a north St. Louis bank.
Police say three other people apparently escaped in a different car from the First Bank at Broadway and Riverview Boulevard.
The 19-year-old shooting victim's condition was not immediately released.
Police say one of the men who got away may also have been shot by the guard. He has also been hospitalized.
Police Major Reggie Harris says the 23-year-old guard told investigators he fired four shots when he saw what he thought was a gun and the men trying to steal his car.
Police do not know if any of the four men had a gun, but a screwdriver was recovered at the scene.
