Trial over Missouri school funding starts today
Jefferson City, MO – A trial gets under way today (Wednesday) on the way Missouri pays for public schools.
About half of the state's school districts have sued, arguing the state is not spending enough on public education and not distributing the money fairly. The suit is coming to trial nearly three years after it was first filed. It's similar to a court battle that ended in 1993 with a judge ruling the state's funding plan unconstitutional.
The result that time was increased income taxes to pay for changes in the funding formula.
