Express ramps up offer for Caremark

Express Scripts' new headquarters, being built at UMSL (KWMU file photo)

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis based Express Scripts this morning (Tuesday) made another pitch to shareholders of rival Caremark.

Express wants to buy Caremark, but Caremark is so far sticking with an earlier deal to merge with the CVS drug store chain.

Now Express is offering to buy shares from Caremark stockholders for cash and some Express shares.

Such an exchange offer could give Express leverage because any buyout or merger would need shareholder approval. Express would have more say if it owns more Caremark shares.
