St. Louis – Groups opposed to a state takeover of the St. Louis Public Schools held a protest at city hall Friday.
Last month state education officials voted to form a three-member appointed panel to oversee the district, if it becomes unaccredited.
State Representative Jamilah Nasheed filed legislation this week to stop such a move.
She said the state has no solid plan for improvement.
"I haven't heard yet the academic strategy as to how they're going to turn the schools around," Nasheed said. "Maybe if they would have come to the strategy with us first, then we probably would have been supportive of their initiatives, however I haven't seen that yet."
Nasheed said she's asked Attorney General Jay Nixon for a legal opinion on the matter. And she said a lawsuit is in the works too.
