Judge throws out old Valley Park immigration laws

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Last year Congress could not muster any new laws on illegal immigration, but that stalemate in Washington prompted many municipal governments around the country to craft their own measures.

One community that made the national immigration debate a local issue was the St. Louis suburb of Valley Park. On Monday, a judge tossed out two ordinances in that city that deal with illegal immigration, ruling they violate state law.

Whether this will become a major precedent or just an obscure legal footnote depends on whom you ask, as KWMU's Matt Sepic reports.
