Fatal crash shuts down I-270 during morning rush hour

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Police are still looking for the driver of a pickup truck who caused a fatal accident early Friday morning on I-270 in north St. Louis County.

Police say the truck was driving the wrong way.

It began around 3:00 a.m. when police followed the truck as it left Laclede's Landing in downtown St. Louis, then crossed into Illinois.

Later, the same truck returned to Missouri on I-270 in north St. Louis County. Police say it was traveling west in the eastbound lanes when it struck a car, killing 46-year old James Cummings, of Ferguson.

The occupants of the truck then ran away.

The crash had eastbound 270 closed between Riverview and Lilac during the morning commute.
