Tamm Ave. overpass closed; will be torn down Friday

By KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Crews closed the Tamm Avenue bridge near the St. Louis Zoo this morning (Tuesday).

The bridge that will be dynamited on Friday night; it's being closed now to get it ready for its demise. It's also the first of a number of overpasses that will come down and be re-built as part of the big I-64 reconstruction project.

The Tamm bridge is mostly used as an alternate path to and from the zoo, but it's also a common place for TV reporters who stand out there in bad weather, giving live updates. Protestors also sometimes gather there to display signs to rush hour traffic.
