Three dead in plane crash northwest of St. Louis

By AP/KWMU

Wellsville, MO. – Authorities say three people are dead after a plane crashed Thursday in Montgomery County northwest of St. Louis.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the aircraft took off from Spirit of St. Louis Airport in suburban St. Louis and went down near the northwestern corner of Montgomery County. The plane crashed in a farmer's pasture.

The FAA says the Piper 46 was headed for Buffalo, Minnesota.

It says the plane was registered to an aviation services company, McC Aviation Services of Rockford, Minnesota.

The company confirmed that its president, David McCormick, and engineering manager Dan Shefland were attending an ethanol fuel conference this week in St. Louis.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is not releasing names until next of kin are contacted.
