St. Louis – St. Louis University's demolition of a building on Locust Street is causing some to call for the protection of other university-owned buildings.
The Livery Stable on Locust west of Grand Boulevard is being torn down.
Anthony Coffin is a member of the Metropolitan Network for the Built Environment. He said his group hopes to rally support to protect other university-owned buildings on the street.
"We'd like to protect the buildings in hopes of bringing commerce to the area, as opposed to more parking lots, which Midtown has more than enough of," Coffin said.
Coffin said the loss of buildings will slow progress in the area.
