Cahokia School Board to meet today

By AP/KWMU

Cahokia, Ill. – Members of the Cahokia, Ill. School Board will meet today (Monday) to debate their next move in trying to resolve a weeklong teachers' strike.

District 187 teachers have been on strike since a week ago, meaning this is the sixth day of canceled classes for students.

Superintendent Jana Bechtoldt says administrators sent an e-mail to union leaders asking for potential bargaining dates. Union spokesman Dave Comerford calls that communication "extremely vague."

Teachers last offered to come back to work for one year for a 3.5% raise. Administrators have offered a maximum of 2.25% percent.
