St. Louis – A 52-year-old St. Louis County man now faces charges for allegedly stabbing his longtime girlfriend to death outside of St. Louis Children's Hospital.
The victim is 51-year-old Vickie Tankins. Carlos Roberts faces charges of first-degree murder in her death.
Police say Tankins was visiting her 7-year-old granddaughter Monday when she and the 53-year-old suspect stepped out to a smoking area.
After an argument, Roberts allegedly stabbed Tankins to death, then cut himself, but is expected to survive.
They were at the hospital visiting Tankins' granddaughter, Rashelle Thompson, who is in serious condition after a fire Sunday at a home in Bel-Ridge.
Rashelle's 5-year-old brother died in the blaze.
