St. Louis-area soldier killed in Afghanistan

St. Louis – The Pentagon says a 22-year-old soldier from the St. Louis area has been killed in Afghanistan.

Army Private Vincent Winston died Thursday after a bomb exploded near the Humvee he and four other troops were riding in.

His mother, Angie Little, said her son enlisted in the Army two years ago and was about two months into his first tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Little was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division based at Fort Hood, Tex.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
